The issue of interstate cooperation in combating illegal migration is highly important in the context of the increasing complexity of contemporary global migration processes and their transnational nature. Illegal migration affects not only border security but also economic stability, social infrastructure, demographic changes, and the protection of human rights. Therefore, scientifically, the independent efforts of a single state are insufficient to combat it. This article analyzes the international legal foundations of state cooperation in the field of combating illegal migration. In particular, it examines the normative-legal documents adopted by international and regional organizations such as the UN, the European Union, the CIS, and the SCO, as well as the effectiveness of bilateral agreements, based on scientific research. The article analyzes the necessity of systematic cooperation between states in the context of the increasing complexity of global migration processes, the rise of transnational crime, and the growing risk of human trafficking. The main goal of this research is to analyze the theoretical foundations, practical mechanisms, and regional experiences of intergovernmental cooperation in combating illegal migration. In the process of achieving this goal, a number of scientific tasks have been set, including analyzing United Nations conventions and regional agreements, as well as examining the international legal cooperation of states, particularly the Republic of Uzbekistan, in this area and their bilateral agreements. While the object of the research is the analysis of international cooperation of states in combating illegal migration, its subject is international legal norms and agreements between states. The scientific novelty of the research is explained by the fact that an author’s definition of the concept of illegal migration has been developed based on the existing norms in international law and national legislation, and proposals have been put forward to improve the legal foundations of interstate cooperation. This study used analytical and comparative methods, a geopolitical approach, sustainable development theory, international legal analysis, and comparative analytical methods based on empirical experience.
