The article explores the stages of formation and development of the system for training pedagogical personnel of the highest scientific qualification in Belarus, taking into account the historical context and institutional transformations in the 20th and early 21st centuries. The legal foundations of postgraduate education (aspirantura), the forms of scientific personnel training, and the quantitative indicators of its functioning in various periods. Comparative data are presented on the number of postgraduate students, the effectiveness of dissertation defenses, as well as the role of leading pedagogical universities.
