The article examines metaphor as a linguistic phenomenon reflecting national and cultural characteristics, traditions, customs, and worldview of the people. The problems of reproducing cognitive metaphors in French prose fiction texts are analyzed using the example of the French and Uzbek languages. Similarities and differences in the associative thinking of the Uzbek and French peoples were also determined.
