The article reveals the essence of youth in the context of philosophical, sociological, psychological and medical approaches as a socio-demographic group of the population. The youth is interpreted as a socially significant generation based on the scientific heritage of Eastern thinkers. The author reveals the significance of the scientific tradition in the study of youth as a socio-economic locomotive of society and the socially mature generation on the basis of studies of the Western rural community. The factors of activity and criteria for defining the boundaries of youth as a specific part of the population have been studied. The features of the definition of youth as a large group of the population in our country are revealed. The mechanisms of increasing social competence and professional intellectual potential of young people are analyzed. Factors and incentives of labor and vocational educational choice of young people are analyzed on the basis of sociological research. Based on the studied material and scientific research, the author has formed scientific and practical conclusions.
