Annotatsiya

This article analyzes the functional- semantic features of intonation expressing interrogation, command and exclamation in the Uzbek language. The author demonstrates that emotional and psychological states in speech are primarily conveyed through intonation and pitch, using examples from the story “Shum Bola” to illustrate how intonation reflects the speaker’s and listener’s emotional attitudes. In interrogative sentences, a rising intonation signals a question or expectation of a response; in imperative sentences, a high or falling tone indicates the firmness or softness of the command. Exclamatory sentences use dynamic intonation to express strong emotions. The article emphasizes the role of intonation in enriching the semantic and pragmatic layers of speech, deepening the meaning of utterances, and conveying characters’ inner states. This approach serves as a solid foundation for a deeper study of Uzbek phonetics and stylistics. The findings of the research can also be used as an important tool in developing speech culture within the educational process. Moreover, intonation analysis plays a significant role in identifying inter-character relationships in literary texts. It concludes that intonation and pitch are essential components of communicative processes in Uzbek
