Annotatsiya

This article examines the linguistic features and discourse strategies of diplomatic texts using the methods of Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) and corpus linguistics. Diplomatic discourse is characterised by formality, neutrality, and a focus on conflict mitigation, employing modal verbs, passive voice, vague expressions, and politeness strategies extensively. The findings indicate that these linguistic features play a crucial role in persuasion, consensus-building, and the articulation of political interests in international negotiations. The analysis is based on official documents from the United Nations and the European Union, revealing how linguistic elements contribute to the pragmatic and discursive functions of diplomatic texts. By identifying the distinctive features of diplomatic discourse, this research provides a solid foundation for further scholarly investigations into the strategic use of language in international relations.
