Annotatsiya

This article analyzes the polysemic lexical units found in Hofiz Khorezmiy's work "Devon". The phenomenon known in linguistics as "polysemy" is richly manifested in the language of the work and is regarded as an important tool reflecting the poet’s stylistic mastery. The author identifies 520 polysemic words in the Devon and classifies them according to their origins: Turkic, Arabic, and Persian-Tajik layers. Special attention is given to polysemy in verbs and nouns, which are explored through semantic, genealogical, and lexico-grammatical perspectives. The article also thoroughly examines cases of semantic shift through metaphor, metonymy, and synecdoche. This research provides a deeper understanding of the rich lexical layer of the Devon and sheds light on the historical development stages of the Uzbek literary language.
