This article explores the intersection of sociolinguistics and modern linguistics, with a particular focus on code-switching as a linguistic phenomenon in multilingual societies. Drawing on the works of Coupland, Jaworski, Dell Hymes, and M.Halliday, the study highlights how social factors shape language use, identity, and communication. Special attention is given to the role of English as a lingua franca in Uzbekistan, where English-Uzbek code-switching is becoming increasingly prevalent in educational, commercial, and digital spaces. The paper examines the social motivations and structural patterns of code-switching, illustrating how it reflects linguistic adaptation, globalization, and social mobility. Through a sociolinguistic lens, the study also evaluates bilingual and multilingual communication, emphasizing its implications for language policy and education. The findings suggest that code-switching serves as a strategic tool for communication, identity construction, and cultural integration, further reinforcing the significance of sociolinguistic research in today’s globalized world.
