Annotatsiya

The ballad "Lenore" by Gottfried August Bürger tells a story about love and death. The main character, Lenora, remains faithful to her lover, despite his death. She refuses to accept reality and waits with determination for his return. However, the ghost of her lover appears in the form of a horseman who leads Lenore to the world of the dead. In V. A. Zhukovsky’s arrangement into Russian, the ballad received new interpretations. "Lyudmila", "Svetlana" and "Lenora" represent different Russian adaptations of the original, with "Lenora" being closer to the German version.                                                                            Depictions of the mystical horseman and his encounter with Lenore in 19th-century art became extremely popular and inspired many artists. They conveyed the atmosphere of mystery and romance characteristic of the ballad and created their own interpretations of this literary work.
