Today, both writers and readers are increasingly discussing personal responsibility for events in the world. In this article, we propose an analysis of "Tales of Belkin" with a departure from the traditional approach in school education. We consider these works from the perspective of personal responsibility for one's life and the fate of loved ones. This approach is more relevant for modern schoolchildren and scientifically justified, as contemporaries of Pushkin, including A. Grigoriev, interpreted the text as an expression of the "critical side of our soul." By analyzing the ironic poetics of "Tales of Belkin," we identify the type of "little man," with his meager thoughts and template life, devoid of moral anguish and responsibility for actions. These "little people" and the image of the narrator himself constitute a collective portrait of the first "little man" in Russian literature.
