The article analyzes written sources related to the “secret knowledge” of ritual specialists and traditional medicine in Khorezm. Based on ancient, medieval, and nineteenth–twenty-first century sources, it examines healing rituals, prayers, magical practices, religious beliefs, and their historical development within the region's traditional medical culture.
