This article analyzes, on the basis of archival sources, the process of the formation of military courts as an independent judicial body during the first years of independence of the Republic of Uzbekistan, their organizational and legal foundations, as well as the stages of staffing them with national personnel. The study highlights the problems of transition from the former Soviet military tribunals to the national system of military courts, issues related to the establishment of garrison military courts, personnel policy in the judicial system, and the role of military courts in strengthening legality and discipline within the Armed Forces. In addition, the institutional development of military courts’ activities during 1991–2000 and its significance in strengthening state sovereignty are scientifically substantiated.
