This article analyzes, on the basis of historical sources, the irrigation and land-reclamation measures as well as the processes of water management mechanization carried out in the Central Fergana region during the Soviet period. The study examines the reclamation and agricultural development of desert and virgin lands in Central Fergana, the establishment of new irrigated areas to meet the demands of cotton production, the expansion of irrigation networks, and the application of technical equipment in water management construction projects. Particular attention is paid to the activities of the “Ferganavodstroy,” “Andijanvodstroy,” and “Namanganvodstroy” trusts, the economic outcomes of mechanization, and its environmental and social consequences. The findings indicate that Soviet agrarian policy directed substantial financial and technical resources toward the expansion of irrigation systems and the mechanization of water management in Central Fergana. At the same time, this policy primarily served to strengthen cotton monoculture, resulting in excessive exploitation of water resources, soil salinization, and the deterioration of the reclamation condition of irrigated lands.
