This article examines loneliness as one of the fundamental categories of nineteenth-century Russian literature. The aim of the study is to identify the main types of artistic representation of loneliness and to determine its semantic function within the system of Russian classical literature. The analysis demonstrates that loneliness in the works of Russian writers appears not merely as a particular psychological detail, but as an important means of understanding the human being, their moral condition, and their place in society. Several models of loneliness can be distinguished in Russian literature: social, psychological, moral, and existential loneliness. These forms receive different artistic interpretations in the works of Alexander Pushkin, Mikhail Lermontov, Fyodor Dostoevsky, and Anton Chekhov. The article concludes that the theme of loneliness enables Russian literature to reveal the crisis of personality, the contradiction between the individual and society, as well as the human need for spiritual closeness and moral support.
