The article examines Amir Temur’s campaign against Tokhtamysh Khan, the ruler of the Golden Horde, carried out in 1391, as presented in the work “Oriental Library” by the seventeenth-century French historian Barthélemy d’Herbelot de Molainville. The essence of this campaign is analyzed through source-based examination of the views of both domestic and foreign scholars. The study employs comparative analysis and problem-oriented chronological methods. On the basis of historical sources, the opinions expressed by the French orientalist regarding the place and role of the Golden Horde state in Sahibqiran’s foreign policy are investigated, and critical reflections are offered on the errors and shortcomings in his interpretations. Using source materials, the article also notes that d’Herbelot did not fully cover Amir Temur’s activities during the “Dasht Campaign”.
