The article examines the semantic and pragmatic features of desire verbs in the works of I.S.Turgenev. The study analyzes the lexemes to want, to desire, to dream, to strive, to hope, to wait, and to long for in a literary context. Particular attention is paid to their role in revealing the inner world of characters, shaping the author’s evaluation, and creating the emotional and psychological space of the text. The research material includes I. S. Turgenev’s novels and novellas Fathers and Sons, Home of the Gentry, Rudin, Asya, and First Love.
