This paper proposes a concept for intelligent energy management of a distillation column based on an Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS) that combines the interpretability of fuzzy logic with the learning capability of artificial neural networks. A structural scheme is developed comprising a neuro-fuzzy plant-identification block, a neuro-fuzzy controller trained by a hybrid algorithm, and an energy-management module that keeps product-quality indices within an admissible specification band while minimising reboiler duty.
