The purpose of this study is to study the existing approaches to analyzing pseudo-dynamic S-boxes and to justify the need to create S-boxes that can satisfy conflicting requirements. The work systematizes S-box operations and methods for their analysis. The results show that the problem of evaluating S-boxes in modern block ciphers and pseudo-random functions in accordance with complex requirements is urgent. The selection of a suitable S-box, the use of ARX-functions, dynamic and pseudo-dynamic S-boxes were considered as solutions. A special ARX-based approach allows for the effective use of parallel computing and is promising for cryptographic protection.
