This article discusses the issue of assessing the level of formation of students' communicative competence. In the modern education system, soft skills, in particular, effective communication skills, are considered an important competency. As part of the research, the level of communicative competence among students was analyzed based on a questionnaire and observation conducted in higher educational institutions in Tashkent. Based on the results, their strengths and weaknesses were identified and recommendations were developed.
