Annotation. The article analyzes the concept of cognitive competence, methods and psychological factors for the development of cognitive competencies in independent education, modern approaches to improving students 'thinking processes, psychological conditions and educational methods necessary for the successful development of students' cognitive competencies, their role and significance in the educational process.
