This article discusses the tasks of creating a national system aimed at assessing the level of literacy of students in reading, mathematics and natural sciences by conducting international research in the field of assessing the quality of education in the public education system of the republic, what skills the modern information society requires for the development of natural science literacy of secondary school students, factors for achieving high results in the international evaluation study of Pisa, educational programs aimed at improving the level of literacy of students, advanced foreign experience in the system, the issues of improving the evaluation system based on international criteria and requirements are considered.
