Multilateral cooperation of Uzbekistan with the central Asian states: functional regionalization on two platforms

Annotatsiya

This article examines Uzbekistan’s multilateral cooperation with Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, and Tajikistan within thecontext of institutional evolution between 1991 and 2026, with particular emphasis on the intensification of political engagementsince 2017. The study aims to identify the complementarity between the mechanisms of the Consultative Meetings and theOrganization of Turkic States, their practical outcomes, and the constraints on implementation. Employing qualitative case studymethods, process tracing, and directed content analysis, the research draws on official declarations, speeches by heads of state,documents issued by international organizations, and scholarly literature. While the Consultative Meetings foster political trust andshape the regional agenda, the Organization of Turkic States provides instruments for project implementation in trade, transport,investment, and humanitarian coopera
