This article examines the development of higher education faculty members’ competencies for the pedagogically sound, ethical, andeffective use of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies in innovative teaching practice. The study draws on systems-based and competency-based approaches, content analysis, and comparative analysis. It establishes an integrated framework of AI-related competenciescomprising five components: motivational and innovation-oriented, cognitive and technological, pedagogical and methodological, ethicaland reflective, and research and analytical. The article also proposes a five-stage model for competency development, consisting ofdiagnostic and motivational, foundational, practical design, innovation and research, and reflective and institutional stages. The proposedmodel aims to support continuous professional development, the responsible integration of AI tools into educational practice, and theenhancement of innovative teaching.
