Annotatsiya

This study presents a comprehensive analysis of the geostrategic role of Khwarezm in the transregional trade system of Eurasia during the 9th–12th centuries, based on written sources, historiography, and archaeological data. By comparative analysis of the works of Arab and Persian geographers and travelers, modern historiographical achievements, and materials from the Khwarezm Archaeological Expedition, the region's position in international trade relations is illuminated. Furthermore, the study analyzes the trade, economic, and diplomatic relations established between Khwarezm and Volga Bulgaria, the Khazar Khaganate, Dasht-i Kipchak, Iran, Byzantium, and other Eurasian regions, identifying the main directions of commodity exchange and cultural interaction. The role of major cities such as Gurganj, Kath, and Mizdahkan as commercial and craft centers, urbanization processes, craft specialization, and the importance of export products in international markets are highlighted. The research findings provide a scientific basis, supported by historical and archaeological sources, for establishing Khwarezm's strategic position as a vital transit and economic hub connecting East and West in the Eurasian trade system during the 9th–12th centuries.
