Annotatsiya

This article comparatively examines the valency properties of word combinations in A. Qodiriy’s The Scorpion from the Altar and T. Dreiser’s Sister Carrie. Valency is interpreted as a word’s capacity to enter into syntactic and semantic relations with other linguistic units, with particular attention paid to the relationship between the head and dependent components of word combinations. The study focuses on the combinatory potential of components in the formation of word combinations in both novels, their semantic compatibility, and the distinctive features that emerge under the influence of literary context. By comparing Uzbek and English language material, the study identifies common and distinctive features of valency and explores its structural and semantic potential in literary discourse. The findings contribute to the comparative study of the valency properties of word combinations and to determining their role in the construction of literary texts.
