The paper estimates the impact of digitalisation on the profitability of banking joint-stock companies using panel data for four banks over five years (n = 20). The national-level series proves inseparable (r = 0.997–0.999; VIF = 543–2049), so the analysis moves to a bank-level fixed-effects model. The direct effect of the online-operations share on return on equity is insignificant (β = −0.115; p = 0.680) and robust across seven alternative specifications. A structural equation model shows that the effect is fully mediated by digital governance efficiency (β = 0.78; p < 0.001).
