Combat training and level of armament of the army of the emirate of Bukhara: traditions and modernization processes

Annotatsiya

This article analyzes the main features of the combat training, level of armament, and military-material supply of the army of the Emirate of Bukhara. It examines traditional forms of military training that remained in the emirate, methods of warfare, professional skills of military personnel, and the state of the army’s provision with weapons and military equipment. Particular attention is paid to attempts to modernize the military organization in the second half of the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries under the influence of external military and political factors, the introduction of modern weapons and military equipment, and the possibilities of their practical application. Using a comparative-historical approach, the study assesses the factors that determined the combat potential of the army of the Emirate of Bukhara, as well as the contradictions between the traditional military system and modernization trends.
