Congenital heart defects are one of the most common developmental anomalies in children. The article presents data on the etiology, frequency, prevalence and characteristics of the course of congenital heart defects in children. The features of the diagnosis of congenital heart defects are reflected. Attention is drawn to the importance of timely diagnosis of heart disease and its prompt correction at the optimum time to reduce mortality. Modern approaches to the surgical treatment of congenital malformations are described.
