Initial Consonant Clusters in Modern Uzbek: Inventory, Structural Types, and Statistical Representation (In Comparison with Russian)

Annotatsiya

The article examines word-initial consonant clusters in modern Uzbek in comparison with the phonotactics of Russian. Based on a dictionary sample, the inventory of initial consonant sequences is established: 73 two-member sound realizations attested in 565 words and 8 three-member models attested in 26 words; four-member clusters are not attested as normative models. Two-member clusters fall into six structural types, and three-member ones into four types.
