The kinship relations and associated values of the population of the Surkhan Oasis have been analyzed from an ethnographic perspective. Celebrating happy moments by hosting a “toy” (celebratory feast) amidst family, relatives, the local community (mahalla), and loved ones is a long-standing tradition among our people. At the same time, the “toy” embodies the ethnic group’s culture, customs, kinship and neighborly relations, mentality, religious views and beliefs, and traditional rituals.
