Structural-semantic features of gastronomic terms in “Baburnama”

This article analyzes the gastronomic terms found in the "Boburnoma". These words are classified according to their structure into simple, compound, and phrasal terms. It was found that simple, one-word terms are used in the majority of cases. In terms of meaning, these words are grouped into categories such as fruits, water names, beverages, and dishes. The most frequent groups are fruit names and water-related names, which is linked to Bobur's travels and his interest in fruit cultivation. The article also compares how these words were rendered in three English translations (Leyden-Erskin, A.Beverij, V.Tekston). The results show that some Uzbek word structures have no exact equivalent in English, which is why each translator rendered these terms differently, in their own way. This demonstrates how challenging it is to translate culturally specific national vocabulary into another language. The article offers useful conclusions for the fields of linguistics and translation studies.
