The article analyzes, from a historical perspective, the formation of the legal and regulatory foundations for the revival, preservation and development of applied arts and handicrafts in Uzbekistan during the years of independence. It examines legal acts aimed at improving the activities of the “Hunarmand” Association, restoring national craft schools, safeguarding intangible cultural heritage, developing the master-apprentice tradition, and integrating the sector with employment, tourism and education. The study argues that since 2017 support for handicrafts has reached a new level through financial, tax, organizational and educational mechanisms.
