This article examines the role of the thymus (thymus gland) in the development of the human immune and endocrine systems. The phases of thymus formation, its morphological and histological structure, and basic physiological functions are described. Special attention is paid to the process of age-related thymus involution, its mechanisms, its effect on immunity, and possible consequences for the body. Current research on thymus regeneration and its possible medical applications is also discussed.
