in the modern era, the digital economy has become a key driver of economic growth and global competitiveness. While large nations benefit from vast resources and established infrastructure, small nations face unique challenges in participating and competing in the digital economy. However, smallness is not necessarily a disadvantage. This article examines how small nations can strategically build competitive digital economies by leveraging their agility, strong governance, and targeted policy frameworks. Drawing on case studies from Estonia, Singapore, and Rwanda — three small nations that have successfully transformed their economies through digitalization — this study identifies key success factors including investment in digital infrastructure, e-government implementation, human capital development, and the creation of startup-friendly ecosystems. The article also discusses the relevance of these lessons for developing nations such as Uzbekistan and other Central Asian countries.
