Annotatsiya

This paper theoretically analyzes the role of the digital environment in shaping Social Media Addiction (SMA) — focusing on global trends and the specific context of Uzbekistan. The research problem addresses escalating addictive risks stemming from the pervasive integration of digital platforms into daily social functioning. Utilizing a conceptual synthesis of "Digital 2025" reports and an integrative interpretation of psychosocial mechanisms, the study examines platform-specific risks such as FoMO, social comparison, and validation seeking. Findings highlight the predominance of youth audiences — particularly the 18–24 student cohort — and delineate distinct addictive pathways: "communal-validation" and "agentic-escapism". The study underscores the necessity of gender-stratified analysis and psychometric integration in localized prevention strategies.
