Spondyloarthritis (SpA) is an inflammatory rheumatological disease affecting the axial skeleton, peripheral joints and tendons, as well as extra-skeletal areas. In more recent nomenclature, SpA is divided into axial and peripheral types. Axial SPA is further subdivided into radiographic and non-radiographic axial SpA. Genetic factors play a significant role, with HLA-B27 exerting the greatest influence. Interleukin-23/17 holds important immunological significance and paves the way for new therapeutic approaches. The main symptom of axial SpA is back pain with its characteristic features. Therapeutically, physical therapy, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and biological drugs are used. Traditional basic treatment methods are effective only for peripheral arthritis.
