This article is a literature review, the purpose of which was to collect information on modern approaches to diagnosis and, in particular, treatment of bipolar affective disorder type 2. Bipolar affective disorder type 2 remains an understudied disease in terms of treatment approaches. In recent years, the list of drugs for the treatment of bipolar affective disorder has expanded and therapeutic approaches have changed, especially for depressive phases. However, evidence-based research on the effectiveness of medications mainly focuses on bipolar disorder type 1, while there is virtually no research for bipolar affective disorder type 2. In this regard, when studying the effectiveness of drugs in the treatment of bipolar affective disorder type 2, the work of not only psychiatrists, but also clinical pharmacologists, therapists, and neurologists is necessary, taking into account the individual characteristics of patients with bipolar affective disorder type 2.
