This study investigated the Visceral Sensitivity Index and the effectiveness of systematic desensitization therapy in 80 patients with Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS). The patients were divided into two groups: Group 1 received systematic desensitization therapy combined with sulpiride, while Group 2 received rational psychotherapy combined with sulpiride. The results demonstrated that systematic desensitization therapy was effective in reducing visceral sensitivity as well as anxiety-phobic symptoms in patients with IBS.
