The article presents a literature review of alveolitis of tooth sockets after tooth extraction. The role of odontogenic infection, of local blood supply and of the use of anaesthetics in the occurrence of alveolitis of tooth sockets is noted. The etiology, pathogenesis, epidemiology, diagnosis and differential diagnosis of the disease, as well as modern methods of surgical and conservative treatment of alveolitis, are described in detail.
