The diagnosis of sepsis is a very complex issue. About 30% of cases of sepsis remain without bacteriological confirmation. In 40-45% of cases sepsis is caused by staphylococci. However, in 80% of cases surgical infections are combined with anaerobic infection. Surgical methods of treating sepsis are considered the most relevant. This is especially so if the sepsis is a consequence of inflammatory diseases of the soft tissues, the treatment of which must begin with urgent surgical intervention.
