The review notes that at present there is no unified approach to the choice of the volume of the primary operation in the case of perforation of a duodenal ulcer. The operation of simple suturing of the perforation opening often leads to the development of complications and to recurrence of peptic ulcer disease in the late postoperative period. Resection methods of operation, which require sufficient qualification of the operating surgeon, give good long-term results, but are accompanied by higher postoperative mortality. Therefore, approaches to the choice of the volume of the primary operation in patients with perforation of a duodenal ulcer require further study.
