FEATURES OF CEREBRAL BLOOD FLOW AND ELECTRICAL ACTIVITY CHANGES IN PATIENTS WITH TIA AND ISCHEMIC STROKE

Clinical, laboratory, and hemodynamic characteristics were studied in patients with transient ischemic attack (TIA) and ischemic stroke (IS). Objective: To identify risk factors influencing the course and outcome of cerebral dyscirculation in TIA and IS, and to evaluate the effect of Actovegin on the bioelectrical activity of the brain. Materials and Methods: A total of 103 patients (with TIA and IS) were examined. Clinical and laboratory assessments included blood pressure (BP), heart rate (HR), glycemia, lipid profile, prothrombin, and fibrinogen levels. Linear blood flow velocity (LBFV) in the vertebral arteries and EEG were studied. The evaluation of Actovegin efficacy included 52 patients. Results: Patients with IS demonstrated higher systolic BP (+16.5%) and diastolic BP (+11.5%), as well as a tendency toward tachycardia and hyperglycemia (p < 0.06). Hyperglycemia and elevated prothrombin were significant predictors of IS. Fibrinogen levels correlated with the severity of the vascular process. Left ventricular hypertrophy was more often detected in IS patients (68; 66.7%) and was considered an unfavorable factor. Conclusion: The outcome of cerebral dyscirculation is significantly influenced by age, sex, comorbidities, BP, glycemia, prothrombin, and fibrinogen levels. TIA occurs more often in younger patients with normoglycemia and moderate hypertension, while in older patients with hyperglycemia and hypertension, the probability of progression to IS is high.
