Annotatsiya

Code-switching, the practice of alternating between two or more languages or linguistic varieties within a conversation, plays a significant role in bilingual and multilingual contexts. This article examines the implications of code-switching for language development, cultural identity, and educational outcomes. Drawing on existing literature, this study reviews evidence for both the benefits and challenges of code- switching. Key findings suggest that code-switching enhances linguistic flexibility, enriches vocabulary acquisition, reinforces cultural identity, and can serve as an effective pedagogical strategy in second language classrooms. However, potential drawbacks include language confusion, interference effects between languages, and risks of language loss, particularly in environments dominated by a single language. The discussion highlights the need for balanced, context-sensitive approaches by educators and caregivers to harness the communicative strengths of code-switching while mitigating its potential adverse effects on language competence.
