The classic cultural text in Karakalpakstan and the masterpiece of Karakalpak nation, “Karakalpaknama” informs readers about the history, culture and traditions, political and literary events of source country. To date, no paratextual research, through which cultural identity might be constructed or at least depicted, has been conducted on this book. Thus, the purpose of this research is to compare it with its Uzbek and Russian translations and examine the paratextual elements and identify how culture-bound words are depicted. The present paper proposes some essential concepts like paratexts, literary translation and cultural identity.
