The most frequent manifestations of cognitive dysfunction in epilepsy are depression, memory and attention disorders and bradyphrenia in the interictal period. Various factors play an important role in the pathogenesis of these disorders: organic damage to brain structures, neuronal dysfunction, interictal epileptic activity, recurrent seizures, and the use of certain antiepileptic drugs.
