Annotatsiya

The rapid development of digital communication has led to the emergence of new forms of multimodal discourse, among which internet memes occupy a prominent place. Internet memes represent a unique combination of verbal and visual elements that convey cultural, social, and cognitive meanings. This study investigates the linguocognitive and linguosemiotic characteristics of internet memes in English and Uzbek. The research aims to identify the cognitive mechanisms underlying meme interpretation and to analyze the semiotic resources employed in meme construction. Using a comparative qualitative approach, a corpus of English and Uzbek internet memes collected from social media platforms was examined. The findings reveal that internet memes function as complex semiotic signs that rely on shared cultural knowledge, conceptual metaphors, intertextual references, and multimodal communication strategies. Despite cultural differences, English and Uzbek memes demonstrate similar cognitive patterns in humor construction, conceptualization, and social commentary. The study contributes to the growing field of digital discourse analysis by highlighting the role of memes as culturally embedded cognitive-semiotic phenomena.
