Annotatsiya

This study investigates the distribution, infection level, and biological characteristics of rust disease affecting hawthorn and juniper, caused by Gymnosporangium confusum Plowr., in the territories of Surkhan State Reserve and Tashkent Botanical Garden. The results showed that the average infection rate of rust disease in Crataegus turkestanica Pojark. and other hawthorn species in the reserve reached 87%, with some areas showing up to 90% infection. In contrast, the infection rate in the botanical garden was around 10%. The disease symptoms are characterized by the appearance of small orange spots on leaves and fruits, which later develop into aecial structures. It was determined that Juniperus seravschanica Kom. plays a key role as the primary host in the pathogen’s life cycle. In the Surkhan region, the natural abundance of juniper and hawthorn ensures the continuity of the infection cycle, leading to a high level of disease spread. Conversely, in the botanical garden, the limited number of host plants and the relatively closed environment disrupt the pathogen’s life cycle, resulting in a lower infection rate. The obtained results are important for assessing the phytosanitary condition of these regions, monitoring rust disease, and developing effective biological control measures.
