This article examines the processes of pragmatic study of imperative sentences in Uzbekistan and highlights the major theoretical approaches, linguistic perspectives, and scientific developments related to this field. Imperative sentences occupy a significant position in linguistic communication because they express commands, requests, advice, warnings, instructions, and other directive meanings that influence the listener’s behavior. In Uzbek linguistics, the pragmatic analysis of imperative constructions has gradually expanded from traditional grammatical description to communicative and functional interpretation. The study investigates how Uzbek scholars have analyzed the relationship between language form, speaker intention, contextual meaning, and social interaction within imperative expressions. The article also explores the contribution of pragmatics to understanding the effectiveness of speech acts in both formal and informal communication. Special attention is given to the role of imperative sentences in military discourse, educational settings, political communication, and everyday conversations. Furthermore, the research discusses the influence of sociolinguistic and cultural factors on the interpretation of commands and directives in the Uzbek language. Comparative observations between Uzbek and English imperative structures are briefly addressed to demonstrate universal and language-specific pragmatic features. The findings indicate that pragmatic studies in Uzbekistan have increasingly focused on speech act theory, communicative intention, politeness strategies, and contextual interpretation. The article concludes that the pragmatic investigation of imperative sentences contributes not only to theoretical linguistics but also to translation studies, discourse analysis, language teaching, and intercultural communication. The research emphasizes the necessity of further interdisciplinary studies to deepen the understanding of directive speech acts and their functional significance in modern Uzbek linguistics.
