Annotatsiya

In recent years, the human rights–based approach in rehabilitation psychology (RP) has gained particular relevance. This approach emphasizes the need to consider the psychological well-being, social participation, and equal opportunities of persons with disabilities through the integration of clinical interventions with broader socio-political and environmental factors. Contemporary critiques indicate that psychology—including rehabilitation psychology—often tends to attribute responsibility for complex sociopolitical challenges primarily to the individual’s “adaptation” and “response,” while structural and systemic barriers remain insufficiently addressed. This article substantiates a human rights protection model in rehabilitation psychology as a methodological framework. It explains six core principles associated with the tradition of Beatrice Wright, as well as the extended concept of advocacy and protection of rights. Furthermore, the study discusses the methodological integration of this framework with the World Health Organization’s International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) biopsychosocial model and the 2011 World Report on Disability.
