This paper presents a laboratory-scale process for recovering palladium and platinum from technogenic wastes generated at Almalyk MMC. The flowsheet was optimized as follows: thiourea precipitation of a Pd complex (70–90 g/L, 25–30 min, E=94–96%), thermal decomposition of the precipitate at 550–600°C, followed by aqua-regia leaching (≈2 L per 100 g product, 1–2 h). Platinum is selectively precipitated with ammonium chloride as (NH₄)₂[PtCl₆], while Pd remains in solution, is converted to the ammoniacal complex [Pd(NH₃)₄]Cl₂, then precipitated as the dichlorodiammine complex [Pd(NH₃)₂Cl₂]; final reduction to metallic Pd is carried out with hydrazine (optionally formic acid). The proposed 17-step, 24–26 h scheme increases Pd recovery from 55% to 84%, delivering refined Pd powder of 99.5–99.94% purity. The technology is reagent- and energy-efficient and mitigates environmental burden at waste storage sites.
